What are the practice requirements?
Practice schedules vary by team and coach. Traditionally, teams practice once per week during the fall and twice per week during the spring. Older teams generally practice more frequently, but all practice schedules are determined by the team's coach.
Where do teams practice?
Practice locations vary by team and coach. Many of our teams practice at First Baptist Church facilities, but coaches may choose other locations based on availability and team needs.
How many Academy teams are there?
Our goal is to field a team in every age group; however, this is not always possible. Team formation depends on player numbers, talent level, coaching availability, and other factors. As players get older, we strive to compete at the AAA and Major levels whenever possible. Mountaineer Baseball Academy is affiliated with the USSSA, which serves as our governing organization.
What are classes?
Classes are included as part of the Academy membership fee. These instructional sessions are taught by the Rogers High School coaching staff and are held at RHS facilities. Each team receives an allotted number of classes throughout the year. Classes are also open to the public and may be purchased individually or through monthly and bulk packages.
What if my child cannot attend tryouts?
We encourage players who miss tryouts to attend a class so our coaches can evaluate them. If we believe a player is a good fit for one of our teams, we will work to place them on a team even if they were unable to attend the official tryout date.
Are there games?
Yes. Our teams compete in USSSA tournaments, which are typically held on weekends at parks throughout Northwest Arkansas along the Interstate 49 corridor. Players selected for a team should expect to participate in weekend tournaments during the spring season.
What if my child does not make a team?
Players who do not make an Academy team are encouraged to continue attending classes and developing their skills. We also encourage families to seek other playing opportunities throughout Northwest Arkansas to continue their baseball development.
What ages are eligible to play?
Players ages 7U through 14U are eligible to participate in the Mountaineer Baseball Academy. However, we are not required to field a team at every age level each year. Team formation is based on player ability, roster numbers, coaching availability, and overall program needs.
What is the game schedule? Do teams play in the fall?
Most Academy teams participate in 1–3 tournaments during the fall season, although participation is determined by each team's coach. Generally, younger teams focus more on skill development and practice, while older teams may play a larger tournament schedule. We strongly encourage our athletes to participate in multiple sports and support well-rounded athletic development
What is the cost?
The cost varies by team/tournaments. The membership fee is separate. We are a 501C3, not for profit organization.
